TEACHER FACING CHILD ABUSE CHARGE

Teacher facing child abuse charge after beating student

Another teacher is before the courts in relation to the beating of a child.

The teacher, Jermaine Jones, appeared in court on Monday on a child abuse charge.

It is alleged that Mr. Jones, who is a teacher at the Half Way Tree Primary School in St. Andrew, used a metal pipe to beat the child on his leg and buttocks.

The incident reportedly happened on April 8.

On Monday when the matter came up in court, it was reported that files were submitted late.

It is now set for mention on June 6 when pictures of the injury and X-ray results are expected to be presented.

Last week, the Office of the Children’s Advocate disclosed that the government is being sued by representatives of a primary school student in Manchester for injuries she sustained while being beaten by a teacher.
