My Wife Dates Other Men, Threatened To Kill Me —Husband

A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, recently dissolved the 16-year -old marriage between Samson Apaila and his wife, Grace, over infidelity and troublesome behaviour.

The judge, Ibrahim Shakarau, dissolved their marriage in the interest of peace, saying that both parties have ceased to be husband and wife henceforth.

“Both parties are to maintain peace all the time. Any violation of the order of this court will amount to contempt and of course with grave consequences.

“Both parties should also collect their divorce certificate from the registrar’s office, “he ordered.

Shakarau granted the petitioner custody of the three children produced by their 16-year-old marriage.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Samson had told the court that he got married to the respondent in 2003 according to the native law and customs of Igala people, while the union produced three children.

He stated that:“My wife is a troublesome woman. She fights me at the slightest provocation and sometimes without any reason.

The petitioner told the court that his marriage to his wife had broken down irretrievable and therefore prayed the court to separate them.

“She is unfaithful to me. She also finds it hard to stay back home and care for our children.

“My wife goes out with other men and even threatens to kill me whenever I bring up the issue.

“I pray that this honourable court to separate us. There is no longer love in the union, “Apaila told the court.

The petitioner also pleaded with the court to grant him custody of two out of their three children, while the last one, who is about five years old should remain with the respondent while promising to take care of his welfare.

The respondent did not object to divorce.

She prayed the court to grant the petitioner’s request on divorce and custody of their children.
