HEY MET U…DID U HEAR THAT MIKEY MENTION BROTHER WAS KILLED LAST NIGHT IN CANADA..THINK HIS NAME IS RICKY…GOT SHOT N THE CHEST AT A BANQUET HALL
BRAMPTON – A 25-year-old man is dead and Peel Regional Police are appealing to witnesses who saw his murder in a busy Brampton banquet hall early Sunday.
Police received a 911 call around 4:15 a.m. about shots fired at a Bovaird Dr. banquet hall, near Gillingham Rd. Officers found Ricky Dunkley with a gunshot wound to the chest. The Hamilton man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
“At the moment, we’re in the middle of a homicide investigation,” Const. Thomas Ruttan said as forensic vehicles and detectives crossed a large perimeter cordoned off by yellow tape. “We’re doing all of the aspects of that investigation throughout the day today. Likely, we’ll be holding the scene for sometime.”
The crime scene stretched back to the banquet hall, several hundred metres from the busy street.
Ruttan said he could not give any specific details about the man, including his name or age. Police weren’t even sure if he was attending the function going on at the hall, but Ruttan confirmed shots were fired inside the building.
Officers also could not offer a description of the shooter.
But despite the early hour, Ruttan said detectives are confident there are a number of witnesses who saw the murder.
“There are potentially a lot of witnesses who may have seen what took place,” he said. “We’re appealing to those people specifically to come forward and give us the information we need to bring this investigation to a close.
“It doesn’t take much. Sometimes it’s just a little piece of information that will draw all of these pieces together.”
Ruttan could not say if the incident was linked to organized crime.
“I think it’s important for members of our community to come forward and give us information to keep our community safe,” he said. “It’s always devastating when someone from your community dies, especially when it’s a violent death like this.
“It’s something we want to make sure we curb.”
