Thirteen children died in a fire Thursday night at a children’s home outside Port-au-Prince in Haiti.
It’s reported that the home had no authorization to operate.
The fire is said to have started about 9 o’clock but firefighters took more than an hour to arrive.
An eyewitness said the home had been using candles for light, due to problems with its generator.
Authorities say out of the 754 children’s homes in operation throughout the French-speaking country, only 35 are authorised to function.
