REPORTER KICKED OUT OF AL MILLER TRIAL

A Jamaica Observer reporter was today barred by a police officer from covering the trial of Rev Al Miller, despite the matter being held in open court.

The reporter was booted when Miller was about to respond to questions from his attorney, Jacqueline Samuels-Brown, QC, in relation to his discussion with former Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington and Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, who was on the run in 2010.

The policewoman, who is of a rank below an Inspector, told the reporter that she had to leave the courtroom.

The reporter told the policewoman that the trial wasn’t in camera and that journalists have been covering it since it started. The policewoman was, however, adamant that the reporter had to leave the courtroom.

Miller was charged after police officers stopped a motor vehicle he was driving, with Coke as a passenger, on the Mandela Highway in St Catherine on June 22, 2010.

Miller was accused of assisting Coke with eluding the police. He has denied the allegations, stating that he was transporting Coke to the United States Embassy, in keeping with an agreement.
