OCHO RIOS, St Ann — A 63-year-old woman, identified as Nathlee Hamilton, was Monday night stabbed to death at her home in Beecher Town and her six-week-old grandson snatched by her killers.

Hamilton’s physically challenged daughter and mother of the baby, Stacey-Ann Ellis, said she was in a state of shock when she returned home from Ocho Rios and found her mother lying in a pool of blood in the living room and her baby missing.

“Dem kill me mother and gone wid me baby,” she could be heard telling persons here in Ocho Rios. “[I have lost my] two heartbeats,” she said.

At one point the distraught mother, who uses a walker to assist her in moving around, cried openly as she sat on the instrument in the middle of the main road near to the Ocho Rios Police Station.

Yesterday, residents expressed shock at the gruesome murder of the former postmistress and Baptist deaconess. “Is a wicked act,” one resident said.

“Dem could leave the woman and take the baby,” said another.

The Beecher Town residents said Hamilton was a sick person and so was not a big threat to her attacker, with some theorising that she may have been attacked because she refused to give the baby to the kidnapper.

“She was kind, loving, quiet and humble,” Wilhel Brown, a family member told the Jamaica Observer.

“Mrs Hamilton was a very nice family person and a Christian woman” added Myrtle Scott, a neighbour and close friend of Hamilton.

“Anybody could talk to her,” said an emotional Scott, who stated she knew Hamilton for more than 15 years. She said the death of the elderly woman was very shocking to the community as she had a good relationship with everyone.

Hamilton, who persons said received regular dialysis treatment, often had morning devotions with her neighbours.

“Every morning she call we to have devotion with her,” one of Hamilton’s neighbours expressed.

According to the Ocho Rios police, they received a call and went Hamilton’s home about 10:35 pm on Monday where the woman was discovered lying on the floor of her living room with what appeared to be stab wounds to the right side of her neck, the shoulder and left hand. The baby in the care of Hamilton was discovered missing. The police believe the child was taken by Hamilton’s attackers.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Throyville Haughton said the police were following several leads and should make a breakthrough in the case soon. The police, meanwhile, have appealed to anyone who may have information about the incident to contact the station.

According to Haughton, the police are concerned about the safety and the safe return of the child.

  1. It’s like every crime a Jamaica av a season…..6 months straight rape, 6 months head chopping off head, now it’s kidnapping. The devil really leggo dung deh!

  2. Not a demon…de baby father, alleged baby father or family members come fi de baby.

I’m disturbed by the comment of “Dem could leave the woman and take de baby”…two wrongs don’t make a right in this instance.
