In 2018, it was $17 million to build a sign for Montego Bay. Now in 2020, it is $50 million dollars to build two school bathrooms. National Housing Trust a give 6.5 milion to build house still…
But the Jamaican Government will be spending $50 million in the upcoming fiscal year to complete two sanitation projects being undertaken by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund.
These are construction of lavatory facilities at Westphalia All-age and Halls Delight Primary in rural St. Andrew.
The aim of the project is to replace pit latrines with flush toilets in order to reduce the contamination of underground water.
The Jamaican people on social media not buying the cost of the programme though and are suggesting this maybe corruption as well as, misappropriation of public funds again.
One woman on social media made the point that, “50 million = 4 of NHT 11 million 2 bedroom houses, 10% deposit, lawyer fee and all. Yet these mad people in suites are telling the Jamaican people who can’t even make ends meet after dem draw tax, that they can only use 50 mil to upgrade 2 toilets. But it look like dem tek the Jamaican people fi one set a Yamheads. Smh”
Another man said, “The office of the contractor General need to take a look at this project before the work begins. Yes the schools may really need this facility but this figure sound too large. They put in the cost overrun too early.”
Pinkwall peeps what you believe?
