The five men who were held following last month’s drug bust off the coast of Morant Bay were remanded when they appeared before the St. Thomas Parish Court yesterday.

They are 29 year old fisherman Carl Manderson of Hellshire, St Catherine; 45 year old fisherman Mark Pitt of Burnt Savannah, St. Elizabeth; 44 year old Rudolph Bennett who is from Top Hill in St Elizabeth, 38 year old mason Gerrol Carey a resident of Thompson Town, Clarendon and 25 year old farmer Aldana Salmon of Rocky Hill in St Elizabeth.

The men are scheduled to return to court on Thursday.

On December 28, a boat in which they were travelling was intercepted by the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard.

The boat was searched and 44 bags containing compressed ganja allegedly found.

The ganja, which weighed 2,353 pounds, was valued at $9.4 million.
