3-year-old dies in Mobay house fire

A three-year-old girl died in a house fire near Railway Lane in Montego Bay, St. James on Friday afternoon.

She has been identified as Ashaine Barnes.

The girl was at home with her five-year-old brother, while their mother went to a nearby shop.

Residents were able to pull the boy from the burning house, however, the fire quickly spread in the one room building and they were unable to go back for the girl.

On hearing of  the blaze the children’s mother rushed to the house in an attempt to rescue her daughter but was unsuccessful.

She and her son sustained minor burns and have been admitted to hospital.

The mother faces the possibility of being charged with involuntary  manslaughter and other breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act, according to the police.

  1. Sad affair.

But, these parent (s) must understand these are babies and they should not be left unattended/out of ear shot. PERIOD.

ME AGO WANT DEM STOP HAVE THE BABIES WALKING FROM AND TO SCHOOL ALONE TOO!!!!
    9, 10 & 12 ok….NOT 4, to 8.

  2. You know PP sometimes it’s just the domino effect of single-mothering. Though I don’t agree with what these mothers are doing, I’ve seen first/hand what single mothering does to a woman’s mental/emotional and ability to rationally and logically think AND make mature decisions.
It’s sad all around …but I’m asking, fathers where are you?
Why do so many fathers (especially Jamaican men) walk away from parenting, forcing women to do in most cases the unthinkable?

    1. Networking with other parents helps.
Many a the men walk about because dem worthless, spot a jacket or the fact that our women behave more time like dem have balls more than men, so the men lef dem fi play dem double role..

From slavery over black women fail to five black man back dem role.

  3. It rough, sigh. The Lord knows best yah, a just life. Mi nah go dash stones n criticise her. In life our mistakes are not the same, she made this mistake but some of us made other mistakes that were not life threatening however I hope she will learn n she can find the strength to carry on.
