I need some advice & hopefully someone will respond. I started as a HHA & now I’m a CNA and have been for 5yrs working in a hospital. I want to move forward but I want to take it step by step. I want to go into an LPN program but its so difficult here in NY to do, and when I do try they have the most difficult entrance exams. I always pass the English portion but the Math always has me an anxious which keeps me from passing and not allowing me to get into the program. I went to a CUNY & I didn’t like it so I left with a B- in ENG 101. I got into a school in NJ but I’m scared of the commute and price tag which is 30 plus thousand. My union is not going to reimburse me financial aid covers some, the rest is loans and interest starts the first day of class. Also…if grades of 80 and above are not maintained, termination comes and imma be left with that bill. I am 34 with 3 kids (17-10-3) and I feel like I need to get this done fast. I have friends that been in CUNY for 2yrs and still have to jump tru hoops to get into the Nursing program and if they can its the LPN Program not RN. I’m afraid of the stress, and failing. My friends keep going mixed advice by telling me people with a lot more going on than me is doing it and some is telling me the price tag is too high for LPN and that I should just so the RN because 2yrs fly by. I’m so confused and I can’t make up my own mind. I’m suppose to start this Sept and the program is for a year. I hope someone reading this was in my shoes at some point that can share their experience.
