WTF AFRICA-WIFE SAYS HUSBAND TREATS HER LIKE FURNITURE

A woman, Zainab Raifu has approached Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that it aborts her 20-year-old relationship with her husband, Ramoni Raifu.

Zainab in her divorce suit sought for a separation from her husband on the accounts of lack of care and constant beating by the latter.

The plaintiff appealed to the court if her prayer was answered to restrain the defendant from coming to harass or fight her at her place of residence or work place.

“I pray this honourable court to please give ear to my plea of divorce because I can’t stay a minute longer under the same roof with my husband.

“My husband treated me as part of the furniture in the house throughout the time we were together. He showed me no affection and neither did we share any intimacy.

“He never cared to know how the children and I survived each day. I fed and clothed our children from the little income I made from my business. Rather than show appreciation for these, all he did was to beat me.

Blood on our hands: The huge cost of ignorance – Part I
“He’s brutal and loved to watch me bleed from the wounds he inflicted on me when punching me, “she said.

“My parents often tried to call him to order but he was always rude to them. He has no regard for them and was in the habit of addressing them rudely.

“My lord, my mind is made up on divorce, please separate us. I also plead that our first and second children be put in his custody while the last is put in my care, “Zainab stated.

“I’m also no more interested staying married to a whore, “Ramoni who had earlier acceded to divorce told the court.

“My lord, my wife has succeeded in making me a source of ridicule in our compound and neighbourhood because there was hardly a man she did not sleep with there.

“She descended so low by sleeping with young guys in our neighbourhood. These are her younger brothers’ age mate, “the defendant said.

“She’s full of deceit. She left my house on the pretext that she was going to work somewhere as a housemaid which I didn’t really like. I agreed that she went after she put much pressure on me.

“I later got to know that she had moved in with another man she got married to without divorcing me, “he added.

Giving his judgment, the judge, Mr Sulaiman Apanpa, dissolved their union and gave custody of their third child to the plaintiff and the first two to the defendant.

The defendant was asked to pay the sum of N3, 000 monthly through the court for their third child’s feeding and be responsible for her education and health services.
