WTF AFRICA-WIFE BEAT HUSBAND WHEN SHE DRUNK

Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned till September 3, a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Sakiru Olatunji against his wife, Munirat Olatunji.

Sakiru in his suit stated that his wife was troublesome, disobedient and violent. He thus pleaded with the court to bring their eight-year-old relationship to an end.

Munirat did not agree to divorce when the charges were read to her.

“I am tired of my wife’s frequent fight. She fights me when she’s drunk and threatens to stab me with a knife.

“I reported her to her brother who after hearing from both of us got furious with her and beat the hell out of her.

“She fought me again after this and my father mediated in our differences. She swore to my father that the next time we fight, she will pour hot water on me.

“My lord, she’s in the habit of coming home late. She doesn’t return home earlier than 10:00 p.m. every day and when I complain, she turns it into a fight.

“We once had a misunderstanding and she went into my shop and carted away my equipment. She seized them for almost two weeks and hindered me from making a living. It took the intervention of my father before she released them.

“I got fed up with her the last time she fought me and insisted she must write an undertaking promising never to fight me again. She did but didn’t change which is my reason for coming to court.

“My lord, I don’t want her under my roof again, please separate us, “Sakiru pleaded.

“My lord, I’m not ready to divorce him, “Munirat told the court.

“He cooked up all those lies to win the court’s favour.

“The fact is we never truly lived together as husband and wife. There is no intimacy between us and we don’t discuss. I know little or nothing about him because he keeps information about himself from me.

“He never told me he was elected chairman of his union. I learnt of this from people close to him.

“I ‘m not a drunk neither do I threaten him with a knife. He’s the one who is in the habit of beating and inflicting wounds on me.

“I changed the area at which I transact my business and moved nearer home when he kept complaining I came home late. This decision cost me many of my customers and I’m still struggling to get new ones in my new place, “she ended her evidence.
