Warrenton Barham, a former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for the Siloah Division of the St Elizabeth Municipal Council, as well as a woman, were shot dead in a violent incident which unfolded at the front of Barham’s business place – a restaurant – in Santa Cruz on Monday afternoon.

Full details of the shooting are still unclear but reports reaching Loops News are that Barham and the woman first got into an altercation.

Reports are that during the argument the businessman pulled a firearm and shot the woman.

Sources in the area claim that a policeman who was in the vicinity of the shooting, intervened and eventually shot Barham.

Both injured persons succumbed to their injuries.

The development sent the normally quiet rural town into a tailspin, as residents gathered near the crime scene in large numbers, pondering and speculating over what may have triggered the initial shooting.

Barham represented the JLP in the Siloah Division of North East St Elizabeth in the 2007 and 2012 local government elections and lost on both occasions to sitting Councillor Audie Myers.

  1. What a tale! Everybody in kill mode. What could di woman have done to warrant being shot, and him received instant karma sed speed.

  2. I went to school with his son and know Dane (son) for years and years. Apartrently, the dad was messing with this young girl and although his wife suspected it she didn’t know who exactly it was. She went to the restaurant of Mr Barbam and threatened him that she was going to tell his wife everything after the fact he was paying her bills and bought her the car she had. He told her not to but she persisted and he shot her. An offduty cop was nearby and saw what happened and he ordered Mr Barham to drop his weapon but he refused and the officer opened fire, it’s sad though, condolences to all those mourning.

  3. Jealousy and rage caused it; the girl apparently was dating someone else. He demanded that she pays for the car. She threatened to tell his wife. I understand that coincidentally the policeman had gone to the restaurant to the wife to have her sign a document for him when he heard the explosion. So his wife was in the restaurant unaware of what was unfolding. By the way in the videos his gun seems to have not been in his hand at the time the police shot him. I could be wrong, just judging from the video.
