MAN WHEY KILL THE 19YO IN ST THOMAS IN CUSTODY

The St Thomas salesman who was being sought by the police in relation to the brutal murder of his 19-year-old lover, Tashoy Barrett, in the parish, is now in police custody and is to be questioned.

The murder suspect, Odaine Keyes, yesterday surrendered to the police in the company of a relative.

Barrett, a HEART Trust student of Arcadia in St Thomas, was discovered with her throat slashed at Keyes’ house last Monday. It is believed that she was killed from Sunday night.

Following the murder, Keyes fled the area and kept himself away for almost a week. However, two residents reported last week that they were attacked by Keyes and that he was haunting members of the community who said that they were now living in fear.

According to residents in the area, Barrett’s boyfriend of one year was very jealous of her and felt that she was being unfaithful to him with an ex-lover.

Last Wednesday when the Jamaica Observer visited Barrett’s home, a message, believed to be written by him was found on the wall. In the message, Keyes claimed that his relationship problems were “driving him crazy” and threatened to end his life.

“[Away with] life; people treat me [badly], so by ending my life will be the best thing to do. Now my girlfriend … takes me for the biggest [idiot]. She [does] what she wants any time she wants. I can’t take this… anymore. It’s driving me mad so I want to die to be free. Life goes on,” read a note which was written in red ink on the wall inside the one-room bedroom where 29-year-old Keyes lived.
