SCAMMER IN THE MAKING HELD

An alleged lottery scammer was arrested and charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act this morning by detectives assigned to the Lottery Scam Taskforce in St James.

Charged with possession of identity information with intent is 31-year-old Dwayne Newell of Cornwall Courts in Montego Bay, St James.

According to police reports, during a raid at Newell’s premises between 4:00 am and 8:30 am, two laptop computers, three phones, one notebook, and two money transfer receipts were found inside a bedroom.

An onsite analysis was done on each of the devices and numerous files with names, addresses and telephone numbers of persons suspected to be living overseas were found, the police said.

Newell was subsequently arrested and charged.

Investigations continue.
