An 18-year-old who lost his mother’s money then falsely reported being robbed, pleaded guilty to a charge of wasteful employment of police time in the Princes Town Magistrates’ court on Friday.

The teenager, of Monkey Town, New Grant, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Maharajh-Brown.

He was placed on a bond of $1000 and ordered to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for one year.

The teen had made a report to the Princes Town Police Station on Saturday that while walking along Tramline Street, Princes Town, around 12:30pm on the same day, he was accosted by two armed men who robbed him of $2,001.

However, the CCTV system showed no robbery in the area, and the teenager admitted to lying when he was questioned by police. He said he had lost the money and did not know what to tell his mother.

The money had been given to him by his mother to pay an outstanding bill.
