ST LUCIA THINKING TO IMPOSE VISA RESTRICTIONS ON VENEZUELANS

The St. Lucian government has said it is considering imposing visa restrictions on Venezuelans visiting the island as a result of the political crisis in the South American country.

St. Lucian Prime Minister Allen Chastanet on Monday said he does not think the government should make it easier for Venezuelans to enter the country.

He also raised concern about the number of Venezuelans currently in prison in St. Lucia.

Mr. Chastanet has asked the Ministry of Immigration to prepare the documentation for the visa restrictions to be considered by Cabinet.

Mr. Chastanet added that he remained ‘deeply concerned’ about the security threat to St. Lucia and the region from the Venezuela political crisis.

However, he reiterated St. Lucia’s position against foreign intervention in Venezuela.
