17 YEAR OLD DIES IN GUYANA AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO HER THIRD CHILD

SEVENTEEN-year-old Nikacia Allen, a mother of three of Matthews Ridge, North West District, reportedly died Sunday at the Georgetown hospital almost one month after having her third baby by Cesarean section (C-Section). Speaking with the media late yesterday at her lawyers’ office in Georgetown, Allen’s mother said since her daughter delivered last month, she was never allowed to properly regain consciousness, as the doctors at the hospital kept sedating her so she won’t feel the pain associated with the surgical procedure.
She even admitted, in the presence of her lawyers and relatives, that the doctors did warn against her daughter having a third baby, since she had her second Caesarian some two years ago, as doing so would be too risky.
“I was not aware that she was pregnant when they did the second surgery for her; they put in a five-year coil, but it was bothering her, and she went and take it out because she was bleeding a lot,” Allen’s mother said, adding:
“I advise her to use contraceptives or condoms or those things; but, you know, young people don’t hear you… And then she went into the interior and work.”
But despite knowing all this, Allen’s mother is still of the view that her daughter’s death could have been avoided, as she knows of other persons who would have had three Caesareans and are still alive.
She said, too, that she is also aware that after the third child, doctors would usually ‘tie-off’ the individual’s womb. It is with this in mind, she said, that she is seeking justice, in the hope that another mother does not suffer the same fate as her daughter did.
She told reporters also that she strongly believes that there is something about her daughter’s death that the doctors at the Georgetown Hospital are not telling her, and she needs the answers.
She has, however, not lodged any official complaint with either the Hospital or the Ministry of Health in relation to the matter.
Said she: “I asked the doctor more than one time; I said, ‘Doctor, why you cannot tell me what happen to my daughter? Why you cannot tell me what happen? I am the mother; tell me what happen, or what go wrong.’ But I did not want to tell them, ‘Well, explain to me what y’all do, because I know that something gone wrong…’”
Recalling events leading up to her daughter’s demise, from the time she was admitted to hospital to the day she closed her eyes, the woman said Allen was admitted to hospital on September 20, 2015, and was taken down to the theatre the following day to have the baby, after complaining of having labour pains.
Her first C-Section, her mother recalled, was some four years ago, when she had her eldest child; the second was some two years ago.
This time around, she said, she distinctly remembers her daughter being taken back to the operation room after having the baby, as she had had two bouts of seizures.
At the time, she said, she didn’t know that her daughter had to undergo surgery, as she was not approached by the hospital or the doctors to sign any papers authorising it.
A few days after, she said, she asked the doctors if her child was still bleeding, and they replied in the affirmative, saying she never did stop bleeding. As one doctor explained, they were forced to remove her daughter’s womb, as it had become infected. Here again, she said, she was never asked to give consent, bearing in mind that her daughter, in spite of having three children, was still underage.
It was at this point, Allen’s mother said, that the doctors held a meeting with her, and one of the first questions she asked was how it was that the baby was so healthy when the womb was infected. Of course, the doctors could not give her a logical explanation. They did tell her, however, that the reason they decided to remove her daughter’s womb was so as to save her life, which, to her, was counter-productive as her daughter still died.
“One month after,” the distraught woman said, “she lying there all the time, and as fast as she recovers from it, they sedating her; they sedating her all the time, because of the pain she went through. This is the Georgetown Public Hospital for you.”
She said she was also told by the doctors that in addition to removing the womb, they’d had to insert a tube to help her daughter breathe, as the heavy bleeding had severely affected her brain.
The woman is adamant that prior to being admitted to the hospital to have the baby, her daughter was as healthy as an ox. She would know, she said, as it was she who took her to the hospital.
She says age or not, she has no intention of giving up her grandchildren, as whatever she eats, they will eat too.

  1. Pregnancy and childbirth still killing women daily even in developed nations. I wish her children all the best in this world. Sounds like they are hiding something from the mother fi true.

  2. Rest in peace. She started life way too early. Children should be allowed to grow , develop and improve their lives through education and not child- bearing.
Form the details it sounds a bit like medical neglect, but let’s also keep in mind that her body was underdeveloped, young and. Not ready for childbirth because of her age.
That , coupled with those fact that she was high- risked from her first and second ceasarian section and the heavy bleeding. Could have led to her death.

God bless her soul and protect the children she left behind .

  3. They need to put the mother in prison bout suing the hospital where where she when that little gal at age of 14 having a child under she roof y she nerve lock up the bastod who breed her then a second then a third at 17 shame on u go rase the gran kids and shut u face its all u fault u should put a stop to it in the first in stand shame less woman it may sound cold but is the truth .
