Sickly former St Thomas councillor faces bail hearing for having sex with minor

Deverell Dwyer, former councillor for the Cedar Valley division in St. Thomas, who is charged with sexual misconduct involving a minor, is to return to court on Friday when his bail hearing is expected to continue.

The matter was postponed when he appeared in the St. Thomas Parish Court last week, it is understood.

Dwyer’s lawyer is arguing that his client is fit for bail as he is extremely ill and requires medical care.

Dwyer and a former policeman, who is also implicated in the case, reportedly left Jamaica in 2017.

The whereabouts of the ex-cop remains unknown.

Dwyer was picked up at the Norman Manley International Airport when he returned to the island on January 26.

It is understood that the former councillor and the policeman were involved with the minor, and repeatedly engaged her in sex acts.

She later became pregnant.
