One of two men on trial for beheading St. Catherine woman and her daughter, freed
Sanja Ducally, one of the men placed on trial for the 2011 beheading of a woman and her daughter in Lauriston, St. Catherine, was freed Wednesday morning before the Home Circuit Court.
High Court judge Viviene Harris upheld no case submissions by his attorneys that there was no evidence linking him to the crime.
Justice Harris argued that prosecutors failed to produce evidence linking Ducally to the murder of 40 year old Charmaine Rattray and her 18 year old daughter, Joeith Lynch.
According to the judge, Ducally’s presence at the scene did not amount to him being involved in the killing.
Ducally had given a caution statement in which he reported that he was coming from a function when he heard screams coming from the home of the victims.
He said he entered the house where he witnessed Joeith being chopped to death.
He said he was chopped on the hand by one of the men and fled.
Prosecutors reported that about 11 o’clock on the night of July 19, 2011, gunmen invaded the house where Ms Rattray and her daughter lived.
The women were shot, chopped and beheaded.
Kemar Riley, the second defendant, is to testify later on Wednesday.
Three other men charged in the case pleaded guilty and are to be sentenced next month.

The ruling is clear if his presence didn’t include him being a participant.
