NEW YORK LAWYER GETS 5 YEARS FOR IMMIGRATION SCHEME

An immigration attorney based in Queens, New York has been sentenced to five years in prison in connection with operating a scheme to submit more than 100 fraudulent asylum applications for Caribbean and other immigrants to immigration authorities in the United States.

Andreea Dumitru, 43, was sentenced on Wednesday in Southern District Court of New York.

Dumitru was also sentenced to one year of supervised release, and ordered to forfeit US$157,500.

She was convicted on November 19, 2018, of asylum fraud, making false statements to immigration authorities and aggravated identity theft following a two-week trial.

Between 2013 through 2017, Dumitru operated a scheme to submit fraudulent forms in connection with applications for asylum.

The now disbarred attorney also forged the signatures of some of her clients.

  1. *Dumitru*,,,,,,, either greek, romanian or russian, lets see if after sentance served, “the dear dictator” will revoke citizenship and deport!

  2. She have effectively “exposed” all these people to speedy deportation with these fraudulent asylum, since most of these people have no other option available for getting a Green Card.
