MT SALEM POLICE STATION INHABITABLE BECAUSE OF RATS , RAW SEWAGE ETC

The Mount Salem Police Station in St. James has been ordered closed by the Public Health Department due to unhygienic conditions.

The closure notice was served on Friday.

RJR News understands that several breaches of the public health nuisance regulations were identified at the facility.

Dr. Marcia Johnson Campbell, Medical Officer at St. James Public Health Services, told RJR News that there was overflowing sewage on the compound, evidence of rodent infestation, mould growth, as well as unsatisfactory ventilation, furniture, flooring and blocked drains.

Ine the meantime, Dr. Campbell has urged employers in St. James to maintain a proper work environment.

She said the St. James Public Health Inspectorate will continue to conduct inspections to ensure public health regulations are being adhered to.
