BABY THIEF GETS 3 YRS PROBATION

Lorna Williamson, who was charged with stealing a one day old baby from the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in December last year has been sentenced to three years probation.

She will also receive psychiatric counselling.

The sentence was handed down on Friday morning in the Home Circuit Court by Justice Martin Gayle.

Williamson, 49, pleaded guilty on October 19 on sentence reduction day.

Investigators said Williamson, a medical assistant, was found with the baby a few days after the incident.

She reportedly told the police she wanted to present the child to her boyfriend after she had a miscarriage.

In passing sentence, Justice Gayle said it was clear that Williamson was in need of psychiatric care.

She is the mother of four children.
