JAMAICANS HELD WITH COCAINE

Jamaicans nabbed with cocaine at US airport

Two Jamaicans have been arrested for attempting to smuggle more than six pounds of cocaine into the United States.

The illegal drug has a street value of US$90 thousand.

According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Jamaicans were arrested two days apart when they arrived at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.

In the first incident, an unidentified 26-year old Jamaican arrived on a flight from Montego Bay.

During an inspection of his luggage, officers discovered a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

Last week, CBP said law enforcement officials encountered a 37-year old Jamaican who also arrived from Montego Bay with cocaine in his luggage.

CBP spokesman Barry Chastain says the Jamaicans were arrested for the importation of a controlled substance.

They were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
