ARREST MADE IN DEATH OF 17 MONTH OLD

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of a 17-month-old child.

Cincinnati police officers responded to the 1900 block of Sutter Avenue earlier this month for a report of an unresponsive child. First responders found the boy, later identified Nahmir Jacobs, around 8:30 a.m. on July 13 and transported him to the hospital.

He later succumbed to his injuries. Nahmir’s death was ruled a homicide a few days later.

Alize Keys, 22, was arrested in the case Thursday. He was located in Rochester, New York, according to authorities.

Keys was charged with murder in the boy’s death.

“You know, I’m happy,” said the boy’s aunt, Jennifer. “I’m relieved. I just want justice for my nephew.”

Sources tell FOX19 that Keys “broke the child’s back,” but family members say they have little to no information about what happened to Nahmir.

“Nahmir was in his care,” said Jennifer. “There is no doubt in my mind. He did it. Just, in my heart — he did it.”

Jennifer believes someone was aiding and abetting Keys.

“I want to see them punished also,” she said.

This isn’t Keys’ first run-in with the law. In Hamilton County, there are multiple criminal charges against him. In 2015, court documents show he was arrested and served time on an assault charge.

The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542.

“We’re just coming together and seeing this through for him,” said Jennifer. “I would like to see him with no bond, period. Because my nephew didn’t deserve to die at his hands.”
