WOMAN DIES IN MIAMI CLINIC AFTER COSMETIC PROCEDURE

A grieving family is demanding answers after, police said, a woman died after she underwent cosmetic surgery at a clinic in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Loved ones remained angry and frustrated hours after 28-year-old Danea Plasencia was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital of Miami, Friday morning.

“They say that, ‘We don’t know, we don’t know,’ but it’s exactly what they say every time: ‘We don’t know, we don’t know,’” said Marcio C. Ferez, the woman’s grandfather. “They know! They have to know!”

“All we know is that she went into surgery, and she’s no longer here with us, and she was perfectly fine this morning,” said Jennifer Perez, the patient’s cousin.

Family members said Plasencia had checked into Mia Aesthetics, located in the area of Southwest 72nd Street and 93rd Avenue, for a Brazilian butt lift.

“Moving some fat from the abdomen to the hips, which she really didn’t need,” said Ferez. “I am opposed to these types of surgeries.”

Ferez, who is also a doctor, said all he knows is that his granddaughter had a serious medical emergency after the hour-long procedure.

“She went blue. She turned blue. She had something really, catastrophic going on,” said Ferez.

Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue units responded to clinic just before 11:15 a.m.

Paramedics rushed Plasencia to the hospital. When they arrived to the hospital, family members said they were told she had passed away.

Plasencia’s family said she was a single mother who leaves behind two boys and a girl, ages 9, 4 and 1 and a half.

“She was beautiful, and she really didn’t need this,” said Perez, “but she was a mom, she was a daughter, she was a granddaughter, she was a cousin. She was happy, she was very vibrant. I just saw her two days ago.”

Friday night, a spokesperson for Mia Aesthetics released a statement to 7News that reads:

“We are deeply saddened to share that an incident occurred at our Miami clinic today resulting in the tragic loss of one of our patients during a surgical procedure. Our condolences, love and support go out to her family during this difficult time.

Throughout our years of operations and thousands of procedures performed, this is the first and only fatality we have endured. Our team is devastated by this tragedy and feels that each and every one of our patients is part of our family. We strive to provide the most advanced plastic surgery treatment for our patients. Each of our surgeons is board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and we are constantly evaluating our practices to ensure our patients receive the safest and best care. Despite these practices, serious surgery comes with the risk of rare, unintended and tragic results.

We are fully dedicated to investigating why today’s tragedy occurred. We will be fully transparent with our patients and with the public as more details emerge.”

“It has been complete shock. All we have gotten is, ‘We don’t know. The autopsy has to say what happened,’” said Perez.

The Miami-Dade Police Homicide Bureau is investigating. Officials said the cause of death won’t be released until the autopsy has been completed.

  1. Women: be happy with yourselves …the way the Almighty created you. The men you are trying to impress aren’t worth your life in the end ..It’s also selfish to leave for one of these facilities knowing you may not make it out while you have children …who will never understand what vanities drove you to this low ..
    RIP

  2. Wow…I don’t understand these young ladies some no kids but still going on that table, Ok say you’re over 35 and have 2/3 kids and your body a bit worn even doh it’s risky I can see with you. I just did a BBL 6 Months ago and it was HELL I am 40 plus with kids I was doing my research for more than a year and was taking care of myself before I approach that table, young ladies please please be careful wanting to look good is ok but do your research.and stop jumping on the table for SM. Hope the family gets some peace in this heartbroken moment.

  3. the clinic in reference is my clinic where I had my BBL done a couple weeks now . I did my research for over 2 years and a few people I know have been there . All the surgeons are board certified and it is their first death since it has been opened in 10 years .I am very sure they are very heart broken because they care about their patients. They posted it on their social media and was very transparent with updates . I live in miami where this happens and the clinics change their name and move on and try to cover it up. This clinic has integrity and we have to admit when we do surgery anything can go wrong just with any operation .A lot of people try to hide pre existing conditions or family medical history as well that the tests will not pick up . We have to be honest with ourselves when we do these elective procedures about our health
