NIGERIAN DICTATOR’S MILLIONS SEIZED

More than US$267 million seized from former Nigerian dictator’s bank account

More than US$267 million belonging to a former Nigerian dictator has been seized from a Jersey bank account.

According to Jersey’s Civil Asset Recovery Fund, the money was derived through corruption during the presidency of Sani Abacha in the 1990s.

A shell company called Doraville held the funds, which were frozen in 2014.

After a five-year legal wrangle, the money has now been recovered and will be split between Jersey, the United States and Nigeria.

Mr Abacha was in power from 1993 until his death in 1998.

It is not yet clear how much money will be kept by each government.

Jersey’s Law Officers Department declined to comment on the final distribution of the funds because it could prejudice ongoing discussions.

  3. Fucking thieves! How are they any better than Abacha? mi waa know is how so much money ended up in western banks in the first place wid all dem stringent money laundering regulations? Same thing dem duh to the Russian exiles, the Iranians etc Western banks are the biggest money launderers in the world, they reason that if they don’t take the money, someone else will. so they they take a corrupted individual’s 50bn, get their 25bn, their government fines them 5bn and everybody wins except the poor people the money actually belongs to smh

  4. Yuh wee have yuh good good hard earn money a bank an dem gwan like dem waah tell yuh how fi spend it, when fi tek it out and all a question yuh why yuh a tek out yuh own money. Den dis yah man dead leff sumuch money? An dus nuttn suh?? Look how much starving kids in Nigeria.

  5. Jersey is one of the places where money could have been hidden legally, just like Switzerland. Things and time change now. This dictator was a wicked bustard, how could he expect to spend all this moneye on himself while his citizen are starving and living in deplorable conditions. This is why Africa is in the rut today , corruption of the highest level. This is why we as jamaican citizens start demanding accountability from the government with transparency in their actions. Jamaica too nice, and we love it very much.

  6. Thats just a drop in the bucket! believe it or not, a vast portion of the money that spins in the financial sector in london is nigerian stolen oil money, stolen by abacha and the rest of them, abacha by himself might have siphoned off 7 billion pounds, as he was very good with numbers, and that might be a modest estimate as the abacha family negotiated to return 3 billion to the nigerian treasury so go figure, they need to check luxumberg, lichenstien, san marino, malta, cyprus, bvi, panama, malaysia, mancau(yes mancau) not to mention dubai, and switzerland refuse to identify the accounts there.
