ANGELA LANSBURY HEARS MURDER SHE WROTE

For starters, the curious overlap of Lansbury’s 12-year run on the beloved CBS procedural “Murder, She Wrote” and the careers of 1990s reggae/dancehall legends Chaka Demus and Pliers.

In 1993, during the show’s initial run, Chaka Demus and Pliers released a song called “Murder She Wrote,” which climbed to 27 on the UK Singles charts and became a cherished summer jam. Later, it was sampled (separately) by Pitbull, French Montana and Omarion.

Lansbury, somehow, had never heard it — until Monday, when Canadian Broadcasting Company’s Radio Q DJ Tom Power played “Murder She Wrote” for the actress.

However, Pliers never mentioned the TV show as an inspiration for the song, which he apparently recorded and re-recorded a staggering seven times before arriving at the charting version.

“That’s very funny,” Lansbury said with a laugh before asking about the men behind the song. Power described them as legends within the world of reggae, which seemed to perk something up in Lansbury, who responded: “Oh, I’m thrilled to be a part of reggae, of course … Wow, that’s great!”
