THE policeman who was charged jointly with two other men in the alleged contract-style killing of 33-year-old transport operator Carl Armstrong, in Grant’s Pen, St Thomas, recently, is to appear in the Yallahs Parish Court on Friday this week.
Armstrong was killed outside Grant’s Pen Primary and Infant School on Ducasse Avenue on April 4.
The 26-year-old police constable, Bradan Logan, who is assigned to the Hunt’s Bay Police Station; 30-year-old Knowayne Ennis; and 21-year-old Shamalo Panton, both of Metcalfe Road in Kingston, are charged with murder, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
A Yallahs police spokesman told the Jamaica Observer that approximately 8:00 am, Armstrong, while dropping off children at the school, was seated in his motor car when a man alighted from another motor vehicle and shot him multiple times. Armstrong died on the spot.
The car with the police constable and the two accused was later intercepted in Bull Bay. Three firearms — a Glock pistol, a Smith and Wesson pistol, and .45 pistol — were allegedly taken from the vehicle the men were travelling in. Police said 43 rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
According to investigators, Armstrong was the wrong target and was killed because he was driving a vehicle similar to the person believed to be the intended target.
The police, while noting that investigations are still ongoing, said they were still seeking the mastermind behind the shooting death.
