NURSE WHO STOLE BABY PLEADS GUILTY TO REDUCE SENTENCE

Sentence Reduction Day: Woman Accused Of Stealing Newborn Baby At University Hospital Pleads Guilty

Lorna Williamson, the woman accused of stealing a newborn baby at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) last December, has pleaded guilty.

Williamson wiped tears from her eyes as she entered her plea and will be sentenced on December 15.

She is one of over 50 accused persons who have opted to take advantage of the second Sentence Reduction Day now ongoing in the Home Circuit and Gun Court today.

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn revealed that 22 cases are listed for the Home Circuit Court and 31 for the Gun Court.

The initiative is among a range of measures being implemented to clear the backlog of cases before the Circuit Court.

It allows an accused person to plead guilty and become eligible for a 50 per cent reduction in sentence.

Williamson was arrested and charged after she was found with the new born child at her east Kingston home in December last year.
