Alleged rapist claims woman agreed to have sex in exchange for money

A Kingston labourer who is accused of abducting and raping a young woman, claimed the woman reported him to the police out of spite because he did not fulfill his end of the bargain to pay her after they met at a party and had sex.

The 35-year-old labourer of an East Kingston address was recently arrested and charged with rape and abduction after the complainant reported the alleged sexual assault.

Attorney Tureau Davis during a bail application last Monday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court told Parish Judge Vaughn Smith that her client was denying the allegations.

According to the lawyer, her client met the complainant at a party in the Cross Roads area of St Andrew and they had an arrangement to have sex in exchange for money.

“She left the party on his motorcycle and went to a particular area that was agreed and he took her back, and when she came off she got a burn on her foot. Clearly, that was an accident,” Davis said.

Davis added: “She had ample opportunity to get away from him; she had her phone, he had no weapon, and he never made any threatening words to her.

“He didn’t fulfill his part of the arrangement, and that is why things turn out that way,” Davis went on.

The attorney, who insisted that her client had consensual sex with the complainant, told Judge Smith that her client had no criminal record.

The judge, however, asked her if the complainant’s consent was not hinged on her getting paid by the accused.

Davis responded said that the agreement was for her to be paid after the act.

According to the attorney: “He went to the ATM but did not withdraw any money.”

The accused was, in the end, offered $200,000 bail on condition that he reports to the Elletson Road Police Station three days per week and abides by a curfew which mandates that he should be inside his house between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am.

Another condition of the accused man’s bail was for him not to have any contact with the complainant.

The accused is to return to court on June 29.
