MAN CHARGED FOR PUNCHING ELDERLY LADY IN HER HEAD

November 17 will never be the same for a woman who was punched several times in her head, causing her to urinate on herself instantly.

The complainant, who had gone to deliver food to Sheldon Gentles’ girlfriend, at a Corporate Area address, was attacked by him after he claimed that the elder woman wanted to kill him.

Gentles pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

But little did Gentles know that when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday that his freedom would cost him $100,000 to maintain.

The prosecutor told the court that when the complainant went to deliver food to Gentles’ girlfriend he claimed she wanted to kill him and began punching her in the head.

The court was not informed as to why the complainant allegedly wanted to kill Gentles.

When the matter was called up on Friday, Parish Judge Maxine Ellis asked the complainant how much she spent for medical attention. The complainant who had gingerly made her way inside the courtroom said “$4,000”, but said she did not want Gentles to compensate her.

Ellis, who was seemingly surprised that the complainant did not want the money, told the court of an experience in which she remembered an accused man taking money from another complainant shortly after she left the precinct of the court.

Ellis said she was of the view that the complainant should be compensated, but the complainant insisted that she did not want the money.

“Why did you hit the woman, Sir?” Ellis quizzed.

Gentles then flashed a smile.

“Is a laughing matter? You just used your hand to beat someone in their head because you can?” Ellis said.

He was subsequently fined $100,000 or serve six months in prison.

“Now you know is a costly venture,” Ellis said.
