Man gets in trouble for 3 sheets of zinc
There was laughter in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court when a man who was held with three new sheets of zinc in the wee hours of the morning claimed he found them but was caught by the police before he could take them to a police station.
Tyrone Bernard, 39, year-old carpenter of Hanover Street in downtown Kingston, was arrested and charged with larceny by finding on November 11.
He was arrested after police saw him walking on Orange Street, downtown Kingston with the zinc which he told them he found on the street.
“Officer, a pass mi pass on the road and mi find it; it look like somebody lean dem up,” Bernard told the police.
The arresting cop, who was present in court on Tuesday, told Judge Chester Crooks that when Bernard was caught he did not know what to tell him at first. The cop also said Bernard claimed that the zinc were brand new.
“So why you didn’t bring it into the station?” the judge asked.
“Mi never get time for that,” Bernard said, eliciting laughter from the court.
Bernard who pleaded guilty to the charge but told the court that he was living at the poor relief home, was remanded in custody for his criminal record to be checked.
He is to return to court for sentencing on December 13.
